Rhode Island Indian Fusion Wedding
As a professional wedding photographer, I am so lucky to be able to photograph many different types of weddings. I was beyond excited when Katie and Kushan hired me to be the professional wedding photographer for their Indian Fusion wedding at Mount Hope Farm in Bristol, RI. Having photographed a Hindu wedding before, I knew it would be full of color, tradition, and amazing food.
Sangeet at Providence Marriott in Rhode Island
My photography work began on Friday evening with a Sangeet celebration at the Providence Marriott. Henna Café was there doing beautiful henna work on the ladies. After dinner, the groom’s aunts and uncles performed special dances inspired by famous Bollywood movies. Everyone danced the night away to traditional Indian dances like the Dandiya Ras. When I left for the evening I was excited to see what would go down at their Indian fusion wedding the following day.
Indian Fusion Wedding Dress
We started professional wedding photography bright and early the next day as the bride got ready in the Governor Bradford Inn. The groom’s family members were there to help the bridesmaids into their Saris. Then it was time for the bride to put on her jewelry, headpiece, and traditional red veil and go to the Indian wedding ceremony.
Meanwhile, my second photographer Chris, was with the groom at the Cove Cabin getting ready for the Indian wedding ceremony. After putting on his turban, they left to start the Baraat ceremony.
Rhode Island Baraat Procession
The girls quickly took over the Cove Cabin and I was able to take stunning wedding portraits in the window light. Then I ran to catch up with the rest of the wedding guests for the Baraat procession. This is when the groom processes to the ceremony (this time on a white horse) surrounded by friends and family and traditional Indian music. He took turns pulling little cousins up for a ride on the horse. Once the procession made it to the wedding ceremony site on the lawn, the music switched to American rap and the groomsmen hoisted him up on their shoulders to raucous cheers.
Rhode Island Indian Wedding Ceremony
Then began the Indian wedding ceremony under a Mandap with the ocean in the background. Kushan’s view of the bride walking down the aisle was blocked by a sheet. Once under the Mandap, the sheet was lowered and they saw each other for the first time. What a fun tradition! I also loved when the kids stole his shoes and he had to pay them money to get them back. Another fun tradition.
Beach Wedding Photos
After the Indian wedding ceremony, we took some wedding photos on the beach. Simply Stunning!
First Look
Next was a lunch reception and a break for everyone to get ready for the western wedding ceremony later. I met with the ladies after lunch, where the bride got into her white dress and did a first look with her dad. Then she moved out to the garden for the second first look of the day. Her guy was floored when he saw her white dress, commenting that he didn’t even know a wedding dress could look like that!
Western Wedding
Following photos in the garden, we headed down to the Cove Cabin lawn for the western wedding ceremony. The flower girls and ring bearers were adorable with their signs, and another beautiful ceremony took place. Afterward, guests moved to the Cove Cabin for cocktail hour, and then down to the tent for the wedding reception. We enjoyed some delicious food prepared by Morins Catering and a stunning sunset and then guests danced the night away. The bride and her family even did a special family dance to the song The Downeaster Alexa by Billy Joel.
