Newport Yachting Center Wedding in Newport, Rhode Island

I distinctly remember my phone consultation with Courtney and Bobby about their Newport Yachting Center Wedding. They were most excited about spending time with their friends and family. Documentary-style candid photography was something they wanted. They told me they just wanted to have lots of fun. And it was all going down at one of my favorite wedding venues, The Bohlin at the Newport Yachting Center in downtown Newport, RI. After hearing all of this, I knew we would be a great match!

The bridal party got ready in a house the bride and groom had rented for the wedding. It worked really well, as I was able to bounce back and forth to capture both parties getting ready. The bride was upstairs where her friends helped her put on her awesome bedazzled Keds wedding shoes.

Meanwhile downstairs, gifts were arriving from the bride as the guys were getting ready. Drinking accouterments for the groom, and a case of Bud Light for the groomsmen!

Roof Deck First Look in Newport

The next stop was the amazing roof deck on the top level of the house for the first look. Some couples like to keep their first looks private, but this couple opted to have all of their friends on hand to help them celebrate.

Wedding Photos at Ochre Court in Newport

Next were formal wedding photos at Ochre Court mansion (part of the Salve Regina Campus) which is right along Cliff Walk. The first stop was the tree-lined walkway out front with the mansion in the background. Then we headed around to the back patio for backlit sun-kissed photos of the bride and groom and then their family and friends. We even had time for a quick football scrimmage!

Wedding Ceremony at The Newport Yachting Center

After photos, the trolley took everyone to The Newport Yachting Center for the remainder of the wedding festivities. The ceremony took place out on the dock surrounded by sailboats and yachts. The bride and groom’s childhood friend officiated and had everyone in stitched laughing throughout the ceremony. Courtney and Bobby literally danced down the aisle after they were pronounced husband and wife.

Tent Wedding Reception

Since we had done most of the group photos earlier, the bride and groom got to enjoy their cocktail hour before moving under the tent for the reception. Around sunset time, we snuck out for a few photos on the docks. There was a hilarious moment where the two of them were runway walking down the dock, and a sunset tour boat turned the corner with lots of cheers from people on the boat. Then we thought about sneaking onto one of the mega-yachts for photos but decided to keep things legal and head back to the reception instead.
