Laugh More. Pose Less.

Heather and Mike’s Providence, Rhode Island engagement session was scheduled to take place over the summer. But we ended up postponing the session as a result of the bride-to-be breaking her ankle while on vacation in Scotland (!). She couldn’t walk for several weeks, so we decided to take our chances and wait until early November to do the shoot.

Rhode Island State House Engagement Session

We started the Engagement Session at the Rhode Island State House in downtown Providence. We totally lucked out with the weather and foliage but there was some sort of protest or rally happening on the front steps of the State House. It seemed unlikely we would be able to take photos on the front steps with throngs of people waving colorful flags everywhere. So instead I started with some further away shots that didn’t show all of the people.

Then just like that, the protest/rally ended and we had the place to ourselves! I am so thankful because I just love this photo of the couple on the front steps of the State House.

As much as I love architecture though, a bright yellow tree with beautiful light streaming through it is always going to get my attention….

Then we walked down the long pathway leading up to the Rhode Island State House just as it started to glow with sunlight. What a gorgeous spot for an engagement session!

Providence Rhode Island Engagement Session with Dogs!

Next, we got the couple’s dogs for a few photos. They are very important to the couple and a big reason why they even got together in the first place!

Providence Rhode Island Pedestrian Bridge Engagement Session

Next, we drove over to the new Pedestrian Bridge in downtown Providence. The sun was getting close to setting and we got some gorgeous photos with the Providence, Rhode Island skyline and river in the background.

At one point the couple started laughing hysterically. I had no idea what they were laughing about and just kept snapping away. Come to find out, Mike had whispered “This is my Hell” in Heather’s ear. Too funny!

Our final photos on the Providence Pedestrian Bridge where looking away from downtown towards the Power Plant. The setting sun was kissing the smoke stacks and there was a bit of color in the sky. A quintessential Providence view.

Downtown Providence Rhode Island Engagement Session

Our final stop for this engagement session was in Downtown Providence near PPAC (the Providence Performing Arts Center). The neon lights provided the perfect backdrop for a few night engagement photos!

I absolutely CAN NOT WAIT to work with this couple again at their Newport wedding in the spring. It’s bound to be an epic Rhode Island wedding at the Tennis Hall of Fame and ceremony at St. Mary’s Church (where JFK got married)!
