I’ve been working as a professional wedding photographer for 5 years now, and this was my first OceanCliff wedding! I was not disappointed having heard so many great things about this Newport mansion wedding venue.
Getting Ready at OceanCliff Mansion
Cathy and Dan’s winter wedding took place on a sunny but brisk day in mid December. Their wedding venue OceanCliff Mansion in Newport, RI was all dressed up for the holidays. The bride got ready for the occasion in a suite inside the mansion. She was all smiles as she got ready to see her groom.
Getting Ready at OceanCliff Gatehouse
Since the grounds of OceanCliff mansion are so expansive, the bride and groom are able to get ready in separate locations on the same property. The groom took advantage of this by getting ready in the nearby gatehouse. It made logistics easier, as we didn’t have to leave the property and battle downtown Newport.
Wedding First Look at OceanCliff Mansion in Newport, RI
The couple chose to do a first look prior to the ceremony since the sun sets so early in December. They met under the arched portico outside the mansion. Their adorable ring bearer watched from a window. The mansion’s architecture and evergreen landscape provided a nice outdoor background even in winter.

After the first look we took formal photos under the portico arch and out back on the lawn with the Newport Bridge off in the distance. The sun was setting by then, and it was getting colder, so the couple opted to spend some time warming up inside.
Wedding Ceremony at OceanCliff Mansion Ballroom
Next the nighttime wedding ceremony took place in the grand ballroom with a backdrop of twinkling holiday decorations.

Afterwards the couple shared a first dance, speeches and dinner in the ballroom that had been converted into the reception space.
After dinner guests (and even grandma!) got down on the dance floor late into the evening. It was a beautiful and fun winter wedding!
