Tennis Hall of Fame Wedding
I was so looking forward to finally photographing a Tennis Hall of Fame Wedding this year! Heather and Mike were scheduled to get married at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RI on June 19, 2020. They planned to have their wedding ceremony at St. Mary’s Church in Newport (where JFK got married). The reception and wedding photos would follow at the Tennis Hall of Fame. This was all planned for a special date, their 8-year dating anniversary.
COVID Wedding Cancellation
Then, a few months before the wedding, the COVID pandemic hit the United States. Heather and Mike were one of my first couples to cancel their wedding. They didn’t want to put any of their friends and family at risk by having the wedding, and I don’t blame them! Having to cancel their Tennis Hall of Fame Wedding was obviously disappointing though. So I suggested we go down to Newport anyway and take some photos to memorialize the day.
Anniversary Photos on Cliff Walk
They loved the idea of celebrating their would-have-been wedding date and taking some photos along the way. So we met up at Cliff Walk in Newport and walked down to the 40 Steps to take some photos. Mike works for a promotional product company and he made custom masks for the occasion. They said, “To Be Continued”. They even cracked open a celebratory Guinness (they got engaged at the Guinness Factory in Dublin, Ireland!).
Tennis Hall of Fame Wedding Photos
Luckily the Tennis Hall of Fame opened back up the week of their wedding date. We were able to go in and take some photos in the public part of the grounds. The couple looked out at the horseshoe-covered porch where their reception would have taken place. They walked alongside the grass tennis courts where old-fashioned tennis players would’ve played during the wedding cocktail hour. They posed under the beautiful clock tower.
Weddings at the Tennis Hall of Fame
We had a great time, and it was fun to finally take some photos at the Tennis Hall of Fame! The experience solidified for me that the Tennis Hall of Fame would make a great Newport wedding venue. I like that it’s a bit of a lesser-known wedding venue in Newport. I also love the buildings and ambiance there.
We had a great session, and I’m looking forward to photographing their wedding wherever/whenever it is safe to do so!
