I’m a Cape Cod family photographer who specializes in the Outer Cape, particularly Wellfleet, Truro, Eastham, Provincetown, and Orleans. My parents started coming to Wellfleet before I was born (they got engaged at the Beachcomber), and I spent two weeks here every summer growing up. My family has had a place in town since 2010, and I spend as much of the summer here as I can. I know these beaches the way you know them when you’ve been walking them your whole life. The light, the tides, which parking lots fill first, and where the dunes give you that perfect backdrop without the crowd standing in it.

- Wellfleet: Towering dunes, glacial kettle ponds, the harbor, and Uncle Tim’s Bridge

Wellfleet Family Photographer
Wellfleet is where I spend the most time on the Cape, and it’s where I’ve photographed the most families. My family’s beach house is here, so this isn’t a town I visit for work and leave. I’m a regular at the galleries; I eat at every Mac’s restaurant (gluten allergy, and they get it); I’ve been swimming at Gull Pond since I was a kid; and I never miss a sunset from the Duck Harbor dunes. That kind of familiarity shows up in the photos. I know the right timing for sessions based on the time of year. I know which beaches have the best spots, and where and when to go to actually get parking.
For families renting in Wellfleet, the oceanside beaches within the Cape Cod National Seashore are some of the most photogenic spots on the entire Cape. Newcomb Hollow and Lecount Hollow have dramatic dune formations that give you privacy and scale. On the bayside, Mayo Beach and Duck Harbor are great for families with younger kids. The waves are more tame, and you see the sun setting right over the water. I also love the less obvious spots around town. Uncle Tim’s Bridge, the harbor, the marsh trails. Wellfleet rewards the families willing to wander a bit.
Wellfleet is the heart of my Cape Cod work. If you’re booking a session here, you’re getting a photographer who doesn’t need a GPS to find the good light.

Truro Family Photographer
Truro is Wellfleet’s quieter neighbor, and sessions here have a feeling of privacy that’s hard to find elsewhere. Highland Lighthouse is one of the most recognizable landmarks on the Outer Cape, and it gives you both a gorgeous backdrop and a sense of place that generic beach photos just don’t have.
I also love the Pamet Harbor area, where the river meets the harbor and the landscape shifts between dunes, marsh, and open water. The cranberry bog trail overlooking Ballston Beach is another favorite of mine. For families who don’t mind a short walk to get somewhere a little more private, Truro is ideal. It’s less crowded than Wellfleet’s ocean beaches.
If your family is renting in Truro, we can easily work near wherever you’re staying. The whole town is photogenic!
Eastham Family Photographer
Eastham has a mix of bay and ocean that gives you a lot of range within a small area. First Encounter Beach on the bayside is one of my go-to spots. At low tide, the bay recedes so far that you can walk out hundreds of yards. Kids love it because they can splash through shallow tide pools without anyone worrying about waves, and the backdrop is basically infinite.
On the ocean side, Coast Guard Beach is one of the most popular beaches on the Outer Cape. It gets crowded during the day, but late in the afternoon, it opens up and works well for sessions. Nauset Lighthouse is nearby and gives you that classic Cape Cod landmark in the background. Fort Hill is a completely different feel, with elevated trails overlooking the tidal marshes of Nauset Marsh with views that go on forever. It’s one of those spots that surprises people who weren’t expecting anything beyond beach photos.

Provincetown Family Photographer
Provincetown is unlike anywhere else on the Cape. The light at the very tip of the peninsula is different. The landscape shifts between wide open beaches, windswept dunes, salt marsh, and a town that’s colorful in every sense of the word. Race Point Beach is one of my favorite session spots on the entire Outer Cape, and it sits right at the edge of the Provincelands dunes. From there, you can explore the boardwalk to the Old Harbor Life Saving Station or take photos at the edge of the dunes. For families who want something that doesn’t look like a typical beach session, this area delivers.
The West End of town is also beautiful for a more relaxed, walkable session with the harbor and breakwater in the background. Or skip the beach entirely and do a documentary-style session walking down Commercial Street, grabbing ice cream, eating oysters on an outdoor patio, and visiting your favorite spots around town.
Provincetown is welcoming to every kind of family, and that’s something I value in a session location. The whole town has a warmth to it where people feel comfortable being themselves.
Orleans Family Photographer
Orleans sits right at the elbow of the Cape, where things start to feel like the Outer Cape. On the ocean side, Nauset Beach is a long barrier beach with dramatic surf and wide sandy stretches. On the bayside, Skaket Beach and Rock Harbor are completely different. Skaket has calm, warm water and a wide expanse of sand at low tide that’s perfect for families with younger kids. Rock Harbor is a working harbor with fishing boats, real character, and some of the best sunsets on the Cape.
If your family is staying in Orleans, Brewster, or Chatham, Orleans is a natural meeting point with plenty of variety to work with.
What a Cape Cod Session Looks Like
Most of my Cape Cod sessions happen in July and August, but the shoulder months are great too. If you’re coming out for Oysterfest in October, that can be a perfect time for holiday card photos.
A typical session runs about an hour. We’ll meet at the beach or whatever location we’ve picked, and I’ll spend the first few minutes getting everyone comfortable. I don’t do stiff group poses. I’ll get you interacting with each other, laughing, walking, and being a little ridiculous.
What you get back is a full gallery of 50 or more edited images within two weeks. The kind of photos that actually look like your family on vacation, not the version of your family that was told to stand still and smile.

I book Cape Cod sessions in the warmer months from May through October. Summer dates fill up, so if you already know your rental dates, it’s worth reaching out a few months ahead.
Cape Cod Family Photography FAQs
How much does a Cape Cod family photographer cost? My Cape Cod family sessions start at $850 for an hour with your immediate family. Extended family sessions (grandparents, siblings, cousins) start at $1,000 for seventy minutes. That includes 50+ edited images, a two-week turnaround, a print release, and an a la carte print shop. When should I book my Cape Cod session? As soon as you know your rental dates, reach out. I split my time between Rhode Island and the Cape during the summer, so the earlier you get in touch, the easier it is to make sure our schedules line up. Weekend dates in peak July and August fill fastest.
Where are you based? Do you travel to the Cape? I’m based in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, and I split my time between RI and the Outer Cape during the summer. My family has a place in Wellfleet, so when I’m there, I’m local. No travel fees for Outer Cape sessions during the summer.
What time of day do you recommend for Cape Cod beach sessions? Late afternoon into the evening. The light on the Cape in the two hours before sunset is the best you’ll get. For bayside spots (Mayo Beach, First Encounter, Rock Harbor), low tide is also a factor, and I’ll help you figure out the timing. We want that beautiful expanse of sand flats, not a narrow strip of beach at high tide.
What should we wear? Comfortable and simple. You don’t need to match, and please don’t stress about this. Soft, muted tones tend to photograph well at the beach. Avoid logos, neon, and anything you’d be tugging at the whole time. I’m happy to weigh in on outfits once you book.
What if it rains? We reschedule. New England weather is unpredictable, especially on the Cape, and I’d rather find a better window than push through a miserable drizzle.
My family is terrible at photos. Should I be worried? This is genuinely the most common thing I hear. And the answer is no. Most families who say this end up with their favorite photos ever. My entire approach is designed for people who feel awkward in front of a camera. I use prompts and play instead of poses, and my job is to make it easy. Yours is just to show up.
Can we include grandparents or extended family? Absolutely. Multi-generational sessions are some of my favorites. Cape vacations are often when the whole family is together in one place, and it’s a great opportunity to get photos that include everyone. Extended family sessions run seventy minutes, which gives us enough time to get group shots, smaller family units, and some of the in-between moments, too.
Do you only work on the Outer Cape? The Outer Cape is my focus. Orleans, Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro, and Provincetown are where I do the vast majority of my Cape work. If you’re staying elsewhere on the Cape, ask. I may be able to make it work depending on timing and location.
